The Samoa Fa’afafine Association Inc. (SFA) was founded by a group of fa’afafine who gathered to talk about issues pertaining to fa’afafine that are not addressed by any other community based organisations in Samoa.

There is almost no work done which addressed the issues about fa’afafine as part of the sexual and gender minority group in Samoa.

Vision:

To strengthen the involvement and participation of every Samoan Faafafine in all essential areas of Society.

Mission:
To build the capacity of all Fa’afafine physically, mentally and spiritually to best serve Samoa  and our very own needs.

Values:
Respect, Honesty, Love, Best Conduct, Transparency and Accountability.

One of the original aims was addressing the issues of members of the general public exploiting fa’afafine to generate income in exchange for cheap labour. This led to other issues, including but not limited to the disciplinary of younger fa’afafine and making sure that they become active citizens who can contribute more than cheap labour to their families, their communities and to their country.

As an association, we are concerned about the status of sexual and gender minorities in the following areas;

- Law and social justice;

- Health;

- Policies;

- Economy;

- Education;

- Employment;

- Culture and traditions

We wholeheartedly support further research and studies (evidence based approach) on the status of sexual and gender minorities in Samoa -  local definition of fa’afafine, fa’afatama as oppose to gay, lesbians, transsexual, transvestite, and transgender.
